A Mascara Better than Lancome, Dior & YSL!

A few months ago I ran out of my favorite Mascara.
At the time my absolute #1 Choice for curl and length was
Lancome's Virtuose. I absolutely thought it was worth over $20.oo
for a tube for the stuff. But, in a pinch and on a budget I had to run over to the neighborhood CVS and see what I could do. Right there in the front of the store in a Bonus 2 pack was the bright yellow
Colossal Volum Express Mascara by Maybelline. Because it was super cheap, at 2 tubes for $6.99, I grabbed them in black. Once home, I even shared with my cosmetic junkie 14 year old Gabbi. She snickered at me right away and asked what is this? Being the spoiled child she is, and not liking Mom's post divorce budget changes, she further commented that
she and dear friend Olivia had just been to the Mall and were making fun of the huge Maybelline Ad they saw with the Model and her Colossal lashes.
Well let me tell you this suff works! No clumping, nice dark color, curl that holds. Even my daughter loves it and now Olivia uses it as well.
My past loves in mascara have been Chanel Inimitable, Dior Show Black Out, and YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils, and of course the Lancome Virtuose.
Ahhh, But that was when I was still living in the Castle..
Now a bunch happier, tons more humble, and careful about spending, I find that
Maybelline Colossal Volum Express is my favorite inexpensive mascara and I think even if I weren't thrust into near poverty I would still choose it!

Some Back to School Finds for Teen Divas

Well it's that time of the year again.
I have one daughter heading back to college and moving back into her dorm this weekend. One Son who is 13 and still not that picky about his fashions yet, he still let's Mommy choose his wardrobe. However, my 14 yr. old daughter is a fashionista in waiting and not afraid to let it be known! I would love to give her all the premium denim, Free People, Juicy Couture and the other labels that most of her friends here in Fairfield County may wear. But, as a single Mom on a Budget, it is hard. Here are some great things I was able to snag for her that made her very happy. I was able to go the the good old, Good Will Store and find a crisp and clean, like new pair of Lucky Brand , size 24, Dream Jeans for $5.99. Brought them home and they fit her like a glove! GOOD WILL is a life saver as long as you do not mind spending the time searching. Also check GOOD WILL online so you can search for items Ebay style and save time.
Victoria's Secret PINK line seems to be an acceptable brand among her peers, especially for staple items and things like Tanks and Tees for layering. I found Deep V-Neck Tees 2 for $20.oo in cute colors and they have Tanks at 2 for $20.oo as well. And of course, I love Marshalls and TJ Maxx stores for hitting the Jackpot on designer clothing. Rather than going to the mall and getting the same old Abercrombie or Hollister that every other Girls is wearing. My daughter now agrees with me that she would rather look a little harder and find the hidden Michael Stars Tees, the Free People she likes so much, and the occasional find of another luxury brand that she can be the first to wear. Best thing is, at Marshalls we may pay less for a higher end, better quality piece of clothing than her friends buy at Hollister for more moola! LOVE IT!

Cheap and Luxurious! Broccoli Slaw Recipe-
I am addicted!

1 Bag of pre-Packaged chopped Broccoli Slaw
1/4 Cup Bacon Bits or Pieces
1/4 Cup Sunflower Seeds ( or any nut you like)
1/4 Cup Dried Craisins or Cranberries
Red Onion ( as much as you like)
Salt & Pepper to taste
2 Tablespoons Sugar
1/4 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1/4 - 1/2 Cup Mayonnaise or Mayo Substitute

You can play with this recipe, add or subtract things
and even Use a bottled Coleslaw dressing instead.

I love the smokiness of the bacon ,
with the crunch of the sunflower seeds
and the sweet tartness of the cranberries.
